Pubic Hair Purpose - Why Do We Have Hair Down There?

What's the pubic hair purpose? There are many theories as to why we have it, and every expert seems to have their own opinion.

One of the most important and valid (in my opinion) purposes of having hair on your genitals is to trap the scent of your pheromones.  Apocrine glands release special scents called pheromones.  Other people (potential sex partners)  may find these scents to be sexually arousing.  Hairs will hold and spread the scent, which should help to attract mates.

The scents you give off may be noticeable, and obviously attractive to others.  Or it may be so subtle that they can only pick up on it subconsciously.

We might also have pubic hair to indicate sexual maturity.  Pubic hair is a definite sign of puberty and maturing of the reproductive system. Some think it could act as a signal that shows when a person is ready to reproduce.

Another possible pubic hair purpose is to prevent irritation and chaffing during intercourse.  Some say it acts like padding so that your skin doesn't get raw from all that rubbing.  This could be true, but it seems that many couples shave and don't have a big problem with chaffing every time they make love.

I've also heard that pubic hair is essentially a "left-over" that we got stuck with from evolution.  Supposedly we were all apes and when we evolved, most of our hair started getting much thinner and lighter, with the exception of our underarms and pubic areas.

Others think it's there to keep us warm, but this has been largely discredited because in today's day and age, most of us wear clothes to keep ourselves warm.  We would think that evolution process would have us almost hairless if it was there just to keep us warm.

It's also been speculated that hair keeps dirt and foreign object from entering a woman's vagina.  This sounds like a very valid theory, but what about a man's urethra?  Why isn't that surrounded by hair?

Pubic hair can be sexually attractive to some people, however an increasing number of people (especially in America) are finding it unattractive and undesirable.  This is one of the many reasons that people like to shave their pubic hair.

There are no serious problems associated with shaving down there, but it's quite likely that you'll experience some slight discomfort when first starting out.

Anyway, pubic hair purpose is still pretty much a mystery.  I mean, we all know that a clean shaven woman can still attract a man, even without the help of hair to amplify the pheromones.  The same goes for men. I f you do decide to shave or trim, do it for you (not a partner), and rest assured that no great harm will come of removing those curly little hairs.
