How To Shave Your Genitals

  1. If you've never shaven before, or haven't done it in a while, trim your hair really short first.  You may want to take a day or two just to get used to the feeling and new sensations.
  2. Shave right after your shower.  Keep the water warm and allow the hairs to soften.
  3. Use this shaving cream.  It is the best shaving cream on the market!
  4. Shave your outer labia first.  If you want to get it really smooth, you'll need to shave in all directions, since hair growth down there is pretty chaotic.  If you're a man, shave your testicles and the areas around it.
  5. Next shave your pubic mound. This area is easily irritated so it might be a good idea to just shave in a downward direction at first.  See how the area reacts after a day or two, then you can go back and shave it really smooth later.
  6. Rinse off and keep the area as dry as possible.

Of course, you don't have to complete all these steps. You can just learn how to trim pubic hair and do that. If you're fine with hair on your pubic mound, then just leave it without shaving the top at all. Want to shave your bikini line? Then target the outer edges of your pubic hair. If you want a sexy landing strip, shave the sides off and just trim the middle.

If you want a smooth look without the dangers of shaving, I highly recommend these intimate body shavers.  They will never nick or cut, yet leave your skin feeling ultra smooth and sexy.  It's perfect for the genital area because it will never pull the sensitive skin down there.

After Shaving

Shaving can be pretty harsh on your skin. Here are some tips on how to care for that sensitive area:

  • Wear something loose. Nothing will give you ingrown hairs faster than shaving and wearing too-tight thongs everyday.
  • If you can, go naked from the waist down for a few hours after shaving. This prevents irritation and gives you (and your partner) time to enjoy the new look and feel of your privates.
  • Some people like to use a lotion or cornstarch powder.  Just make sure it doesn't contain pore-clogging mineral oil.

What about other methods of hair removal? I think it's a wise idea to avoid depilatories, especially around the pubic area. They irritated my legs so badly that I was itching for a whole day after treatment, so I wouldn't dream of using them on sensitive pubic areas.  Waxing is a preferred method of some, but I find shaving to be quicker and more comfortable.  Getting a wax will leave you super smooth but you have to spread your legs in front of a stranger and deal with redness and ingrown hairs.  Permanent hair removal is another option; you can talk to your dermatologist about that one.

After shaving yourself, you might find that you don't even like how it looks/feels/etc.  In this case, it's easy to grow back and no harm has been done.  Or you and your partner might really like it, but you feel like you don't have the time for upkeep.

You might also find yourself stuck with (gasp) a rash!  This is why it's important to keep the area as dry as you can.  If you get an ingrown hair or rash, wash with some anti-bacterial soap and see a dermatologist.

Now you know exactly how to trim and shave yourself safely.  You also have learned all the reasons people do it and the problems associated with it.  It's your choice and your choice only. It's a good idea to try it at least once, but don't let a lover push you into it.
